Langly's Song for a Mermaid He Once Met

lyrics

by Billy Degge

They tell me of a furnace
in a green and storied land
which formally belonged to
a demon’s marching band
it fries up all those they capture
whilst they play the drums up a blur
souls burn and twist together
melted in molten heather
One day the furnace did explode
Now no one knows what they were!

And way up in a fortress
of the green and storied land
giants eat virgin breast
all jejune in rigor mortis
they pull them close, for some kind of kiss
they pluck the hairs from their head
then the giants then eat them all cold dead
their face a constant-frown
One day a living girl got out
And she burnt the whole place down!

Bloating in a river
in the green and storied land
lie fallen stars made o’ silver
who whisper libels so sweet
To all those who listens to deceit
telling travellers stories
of painted shores and their glories
All who are gullible enough to listen
Soon begin to regret their decision
Whilst the stars carry out their plot
And all those who listen get shot!

Which brings us to my tale
in this green and storied land
What I say, may leave you frail
But all is true,
I swear on the God’s two
I saw you wading through the Brackish
All scaled and tailed of fish
I loved you in an instant
My speech turned to an infant’s
Now I’m singing this to her
My beautiful girl of Mer!
