Attracted to a man he didn't know
But he might've known in a different age
Infatuated, he brought him home
His sister felt the same, and they were engaged

Siblings, counterparts, competed through the years
In a silent way, they were so the same
Accosted by the father, "Charles has a son,
negro-born." Henry was so torn

So he took his companion out to war
For just how long he wasn't sure
The wedding was postponed, Judith left all home alone
Two brothers fighting against the north

Four years pass, "It's time enough."
Reads the letter sent to Sutpen's Hundred
The boys return home, a gunshot rings
And Henry runs up the stairs

"Now you can't marry him."
"Why can't I marry him?"
"Because he's dead."
"Dead?"
"Yes. I killed him."

Cousin Rosa helps to grow
The food for three women alone
Then father Thomas returns home
So goes "The Death of Charles Bon"
